2026 Volunteers’ Week – Daytime Event gives a ‘Heartfelt Thanks’ to Volunteers.

A fantastic afternoon celebrating volunteering at Ial Restaurant (04/06/2026) for Volunteers’ Week. We were thrilled to have the new Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr Jeremy Kent to give out certificates for these amazing volunteers.

The event was introduced by Amy, AVOW’s Community Development Officer with a focus on Volunteering and Governance. The event was hosted by our Chair of Trustees Peter Howell, who many people will be familiar with as the host of Wrexham City Radio’s Community Show on Wednesday (between 4 and 6).

The Mayor then spoke about the importance of youth volunteering, and the impact that it has had on him. As someone who volunteers their time to support youth volunteers, he spoke passionately about how they were working to make Wrexham a better, more connected place.

During the event, we heard from Bryn Law, the Welsh National Football Commentator. He had this to say to the ‘fantastic’ volunteers:

“What the town is all about is, is exactly what you exemplify […] all the things that make our community a very special community. So to all of you, a very a heartfelt thanks very much for all the work you do and continue to do.” – Bryn Law

Amy spoke about all the work that AVOW do, and the ways in which AVOW is here to support charities of all shapes and sizes. She spoke about how AVOW can support with governance queries, managing and organising volunteers, helping explore funding options and grant writing, and engaging with, and influencing policy both locally and nationally.

It was a privilege to join so many dedicated volunteers and celebrate the incredible contribution they make to communities across Wrexham.
The afternoon was a reminder of the huge difference volunteers make every day — supporting others, bringing people together, preserving local heritage, running community groups, and helping those most in need. Their commitment, compassion, and generosity are truly inspiring.
Congratulations to all of the nominees and award winners, and thank you to every volunteer for the time and energy you give to make Wrexham such a special place. – Cllr Jeremy Kent, Mayor of Wrexham

All in all it was a fantastic afternoon, helped along by some amazing cookies and tea and coffee provided by Ial Resteraunt. It was such a privilege to celebrate volunteers throughout Wrexham, doing everything from offering advice to people, through to taking photographs and social media, to trustees and those that work on boards. These volunteers give their time to make such an amazing difference.

A big thank you to all the people who came and helped us celebrate Volunteers’ Week! and a big thank you to all the volunteers that make it happen!

You are the heart of our communities, and today was a fitting celebration of everything you do. – Cllr Jeremy Kent, Mayor of Wrexham
