Introduction to RITA
RITA is a free digital therapy tool offered by AVOW to people in Wrexham living with dementia and their unpaid carers. It uses a touchscreen or tablet interface to bring together meaningful content and therapeutic interaction in a way that feels approachable and supportive.
What RITA means and how it works
The name RITA stands for Reminiscence Rehabilitation and Interactive Therapy Activities. It delivers therapeutic and enjoyable content such as music, games, photos, videos and personalised media tailored to the individual’s history, preferences and interests.
Who qualifies to receive RITA
RITA is available at no cost to people in Wrexham who are living with dementia, and to unpaid carers who support someone with dementia. If you live in Wrexham and fall into either of these groups, you are eligible to receive RITA through AVOW.

Core features and experience
RITA offers curated media, memory prompts, interactive games, reminiscence tools, playlists and life-story collections. Everything is designed for simplicity and intuition so that users of all technological experience can engage without frustration.
Benefits for users and carers
For carers, RITA provides a measure of respite by engaging the person with dementia independently. For the person with dementia, it delivers stimulation, memory recall, personalised content, conversation prompts and a sense of familiarity and purpose.
Health, safety and wellbeing outcomes
RITA can help improve sleep through calming and familiar media, support better hydration and nutrition by sparking interest in food and drink, and reduce risk of falls. Clinical studies indicate use of RITA is associated with up to a 60 per cent reduction in falls. These outcomes help safeguard dignity, health and peace of mind.
