Volunteers’ Week 2026 – Nominations Open
The Wrexham Volunteering Awards 2026 are coordinated by AVOW with the purpose of recognising and celebrating the real difference volunteers make to communities throughout Wrexham County Borough. The award will take place during Volunteers Week 2026 1st- 7th 2026.
Volunteers’ Week returns for 2026 – and we’re looking to make it bigger than ever. From 2 to 8 June 2025, AVOW will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK. Running every year since 1984, the week provides a crucial opportunity to thank volunteers and recognise the value of their time, passion and skills. The campaign highlights the diversity and unity of volunteer work across the UK.
Many will take part in awards ceremonies, coffee mornings and days out during the week. The celebrations aim to foster connections between national organisations and grassroots groups, celebrating the spirit of volunteering that enriches communities each year.
This Volunteers’ Week AVOW will be celebrating volunteers throughout Wrexham County through 2 events, and we’re asking you to nominate a volunteer (or group of volunteers) that have really made a difference. The nomination process is really simple.
Process
- Fill in an online nomination form and let the volunteer know that you have nominated them. The form can be found here: Volunteers Week Nomination Form 2026 – Fill in form
- The nominee will be invited to a celebration event during volunteers week (They will need to sign up to confirm their attendance)
- You will be invited too (numbers will be limited so we are unable to invite others from your organisation)
- All named nominees will be celebrated and receive a certificate at the event or at a place and time that suits them

This year we will be celebrating with two events, one aimed at Youth Volunteering – that’s youth volunteers (anyone under 26) and those that work with youth and youth volunteers. The second event is aimed at everyone else, held during the day.
The events:
– AVOW Daytime Celebration Event for Volunteers – Thursday 4th June, 1:00 – 2.30pm, Iâl Restaurant, Chester Rd, Wrexham LL12 7AD
– AVOW Evening Celebration Event for Youth Volunteers – Tuesday 2nd June, 5:00 – 6.30pm, Xplore! Henblas St, Wrexham LL13 8AE
Don’t worry if your nominee can’t make the ceremony, AVOW’s team will ensure that they are celebrated. We are happy to meet with Volunteers, and share and celebrate with them where ever works for them.
To qualify for nomination, nominees are required to volunteer for a charity, community group, or a comparable not for profit organisation in Wrexham. If you are uncertain about your eligibility, please contact AVOW.
Closing Date:
Nominations MUST be received by 12 Midnight on Sunday the 3rd of May 2026. People will be contacted by AVOW to sign up to attend the celebration event and then will be presented during Volunteers Week 1-7 June 2026.

“Volunteers’ Week is our biggest event of the year. It is important that it is – it celebrates the unsung superheroes of Wrexham. They make an incredible contribution to the local life can community. Wrexham wouldn’t be the same without them. “ – Dawn Roberts-McCabe, Chief Officer of AVOW
Every year, we ask celebrities local and international to send videos celebrating volunteers, and saying a big ‘Thank You” for the work that they do throughout Wrexham. Over the years, we’ve been lucky enough to get some amazing videos.
Here are some videos from previous years, videos Ian Puleston-Davies, Andy Hickey, and Doctor Cymraig.
If you would like to submit your own video to thank volunteers, please reach out to us at media@avow.org

Volunteers’ Week is led by the UK Volunteering Forum, a partnership between Volunteer Scotland, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) and Volunteer Now in Northern Ireland.
The UK Volunteering Forum said: “Volunteers bring a richness to organisations across the country. There is no better time to recognise the diversity of our volunteers and celebrate the difference that volunteering makes than during Volunteers’ Week. Without volunteers many charities just simply could not function, with so many people giving up their time and going above and beyond. The week is a chance for all of us to show just how vital they are to charities and communities everywhere.”
