Good Governance – Draft

Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham

Good governance is a key aspect of running and developing all community-based enterprises, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and direction to meet community needs. Getting advice on governance matters can help to promote accountability, attract support, and generate financial backing so you can continue to deliver impactful services.

What AVOW can support with:

AVOW provide Good Governance support to new and existing organisations with training and 1-1 support on a wide range of issues, this is support for trustees, staff and volunteers.

Below are some of the queries that we can support with:

When thinking of setting up a not-for-profit organisation, this can be one of the most important choices in growing an organisation. A CIO (Charitable Company Limited by Gurantee) is an incorporated structure designed for charities. Your register them with the charity commission, rather than companies house. Trustees have limited, or in some cases, no liability for CIO debts or liabilities. An Association is made up of a group of people who work together to achieve the same goal, and typically not for profit. It needs a strong mission statement and articles that define what the association is about and for. A CIC is a Community Interest Company which operate to provide benefit to the community, rather than for profit. It operates in the same way as any other company, but the profit that it generates is then used to support the specific purpose of the CIC.

Deciding which one is right for you is a complicated process, and can feel overwhelming. That’s what AVOW is here to support with.
