Welsh Youth Parliament Events: Life Skills in the Curriculum

We are very excited to be able to invite you to the first ever Welsh Youth Parliament events. A fantastic opportunity to meet your Welsh Youth Parliament Members and to participate in their work.

In February this year, the Welsh Youth Parliament held its first ever sitting in the Senedd Chamber where Welsh Youth Parliament Members debated twenty one different topics which had been identified as important to young people across Wales. After the debate, Welsh Youth Parliament Members were given a chance to vote for the three issues they wanted the Welsh Youth Parliament to focus on during the next two years, and the following were selected –

1.         Emotional and Mental Health Support

2.         Littering and Plastic Waste

3.         Life Skills in the Curriculum

The Welsh Youth Parliament Members have decided to focus on Life Skills in the Curriculum first as they want to take the opportunity to feed into the Draft Curriculum for Wales, before presenting their recommendations at the Welsh Youth Parliament’s next Sitting at the Senedd in October 2019.

In order to meet young people across Wales to complete the Welsh Youth Parliament’s research on Life Skills in the Curriculum, we will be holding two events in July.

Date and time Location
Monday 8 July 2019

Liberty Stadium, Swansea
Friday 12 July 2019
Catrin Finch Centre, Glyndwr University, Wrexham

There will also be an opportunity during these events to get a flavour of a range of life skills activities available from a range of organisations. This will also be a great opportunity for teachers to network and share ideas.

Here’s a draft of the sessions that will be held on the day. Those who book spaces will receive a more detailed agenda closer to the time.

  • A Q&A session (WYPMs, AMs and guest speakers)
  • Focus groups with young people and teachers
  • A marketplace with taster stalls of different life skills sessions

The events are suitable for young people, their teachers and organisations who work with young people from 11 – 25 years old.

A travel subsidy will be available for those who bring a group of 10 young people or more.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided throughout the day.

These events will be completely bilingual.

To book spaces and for more information, please contact us via email or phone using the details below by Friday 28 June 2019.
