Natasha achieves employment through volunteering

Natasha Davies from Wrexham recently gained employment in a shop and believes she achieved the skills and confidence to return to work through volunteering.

Vicky Wright, Volunteer Centre Development Officer at AVOW said ‘Natasha came to AVOW Volunteer Centre following the advice of her Work Coach from Wrexham Jobcentre.  She was signposted to various opportunities, 2 of which she decided to commit to’.

‘Natasha gained customer service and team work skills from volunteering whilst enjoying meeting new people and giving something back to her community.  Natasha has volunteered ever since she left school and has absolutely loved it; she describes volunteering as ‘brilliantly rewarding!’

As the County Voluntary Council for Wrexham here at AVOW Volunteer Centre we offer one-to-one appointments to help individuals locate volunteering opportunities, we regularly signpost potential volunteers to charities and non-for-profit organisations.  We also facilitate a monthly volunteer drop-in which gives organisations the chance to meet with and recruit volunteers as well as providing a great networking opportunity.

We also endeavour to support people who may be facing barriers to volunteering by offering reassurance, an open-door service, help with form filling and as many return visits as needed to help build their confidence so that everyone can enjoy a fulfilling and worthwhile volunteering experience.
