Invitation to Black History Month Wales 2016 – Young, Gifted, Black

We would like to invite you to attend Black History Month Wales 2016 to recognise and celebrate the achievements of Black African and African Caribbean people and their contributions to Welsh Heritage and Culture.

Black History Month is being celebrated for the 9th year in Wales. Every year, we host a range of activities and events to capture and share the contributions of people from the African Diaspora as part of our shared history, through a wide range of educational and creative activities for people of all ages.

Black History Month Wales is managed by Race Cymru Council and have 95 plus steering committee members consisting of pan-Wales organisations, grassroots groups, schools, Further Education and Higher Education institutions, representing people of different cultures, faiths and geographical locations. From the steering committee we also have established a Black History Management Committee whose role is to plan and programme activities around Black History across Wales. Some of our steering committee and management committee members are Amgueddfa Cymru/ Museum Wales; African Community Centre, Wales; Cardiff and Bangor Universities; Schools – Minority Ethnic Achievement Support (MEAS) Team; Princes Trust; Jamaican Society; Wales Millennium Centre; and Trade Unions in Wales to name but a few.

Our theme for Black History this year is ‘Young, Gifted, Black’ and we will begin this year’s celebrations by celebrating talented young people at the first ever Black History Month Wales Youth Awards.
