Field in Trust Newsletter

Welcome to your February Fields in Trust Cymru update. It may still be cold outside but we’re looking forward to the summer as we reveal the date for Have a Field Day. Read on for more on bringing your friends and community together to #LoveYourLocalPark this July.

This month there’s also an update on our Active Spaces protection programme which is continuing to secure sites and help park users to be more active on their local green spaces as well as news on how to get involved with #teamFIT this summer.

Remember, between ezine updates you can keep in touch with Fields in Trust via social media: FacebookTwitter and LinkedIn.

Thank you.

Have a picnic or a party in your park this summer

Last summer, thousands of you came together at hundreds of events across the country to celebrate Have a Field Day. We’re delighted to announce that Have a Field Day will once again this year take place on the first Saturday in July. You don’t have to hold a big event to take part in Have a Field Day (although of course the more the merrier!) so this summer why not hold a picnic at your local park – invite your friends and meet fellow park users in a celebration of our nation’s parks and green spaces on Saturday 7th July.

Registration for Have a Field Day will open soon but in the mean time you can express interest online and we’ll be in touch!

Active Spaces programme getting communities moving

Our Active Spaces programme, funded by The London Marathon Charitable Trust, is continuing to help communities get active and secure recreational sites in perpetuity.

Llantwit Major Recreation Field recently became the first site in Wales protected under the programme, which as well as securing green spaces is providing grants of £5,000 to deliver on-site physical activity projects. The next and final deadline for applications to the programme is 27th April.

Challenge yourself to a challenge event this summer

Have you set yourself the target of getting fitter in 2018? Keeping those new year’s resolutions is easier with a goal to work towards, so why not join #teamFIT at a challenge event this summer. As well as ensuring you keep that resolution you’ll be raising money to help protect parks and green spaces forever. Whether you want to run or cycle, we’ve guaranteed charity places at The Virgin Sport British 10k and Prudential RideLondon events in July.

Looking for something a bit closer to home? If you’ve secured a place in another challenge event just get in touch – we’d love to have you on board and can offer you the same support as all other members of #teamFIT!

Conwy to host Armed Forces Day this summer

At the Fields in Trust Awards in December, we featured Queens Gardens in Colwyn Bay as one of our showcase Centenary Fields. Later this year, the county of Conwy will be hosting the prestigious national Armed Forces Day event, with the focal point of the celebrations in nearby Llandudno. Queens Gardens is home to a bronze memorial statue of a World War I soldier and plaque commemorating the 174 local men who fell during the Great War. The site is protected forever as part of the Centenary Fields programme.
