Consultation: The European Union (Withdrawal) Bill
This is a joint consultation that will feed into the work of both the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee and the External Affairs and Additional Legislation Committee. The Committees have agreed to work together to consider the implications of this Bill for Wales.
The Committees would welcome your general response to the Bill, as well as your views on:
– the treatment of devolution;
– the delegation of powers and their control; and
– the scrutiny processes and the role of the devolved legislatures.
Please note that, due to the potentially wide-ranging implications of the Bill, any submissions that are of relevance to one of the Assembly’s other subject committees will be shared with those committees.
In preparing a response, you might want to consider the work that both Committees have published in relation to this Bill.
The Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee published a declaratory statement in response to the UK Government’s White Paper on the Bill and intends to write to the Secretary of State for Exiting the EU with its initial thoughts on the Bill as introduced.
The External Affairs and Additional Legislation Committee published a report on the UK Government’s White Paper on the Bill. It has also written to the Secretary of State for Exiting the EU to seek a response to that report.
The Committees welcome responses in Welsh or English from individuals and organisations. We ask that organisations with their own language policies provide bilingual responses in line with those policies.
Submissions should be no longer than 2,000 words, contain numbered paragraphs, and sources of evidence should be referenced and hyperlinked where possible.
Please submit your response to: Committees@Assembly.Wales
The deadline for submissions is: 10.00 Monday, 4 September 2017
