Children and Young People First
Thursday 10th July 2014 was the launch of the youth justice strategy for Wales, which aims to improve services to those in, and at risk of entering, the youth justice system. Children and Young People First is our second joint strategy produced in partnership with the Welsh Government and replaces the All Wales Youth Offending Strategy of 2004.
The achievements of the youth justice system in the ten years since our first joint strategy are a testament to the capacity for youth justice services in Wales to deliver in the devolved context. Emblematic of this success is the reduction in first time entrants to the youth justice system and the low number of young people in custody.
The strategy focuses on improving the whole journey a young person may travel from the first signs of offending behaviour through to the potential for a fulfilling and crime-free life. Children and Young People First sets out how the YJB, the Welsh Government, and most importantly, the youth justice system in Wales will achieve this.
