Belles on Bikes

It’s that time again and another ‘Belles on Bikes’ ride is planned for Sunday 22nd February organised by Sustrans (http://www.sustrans.org.uk/wales). This is a female-only ride that is led by female Sustrans volunteers.

The idea of these rides is to support women to feel more confident on 2 wheels. We will be starting off in Chirk at Cafe Wylfa, a social enterprise run cafe on Castle Road at 10am. The trained volunteers will tell you all about the route and what to look out for, and then head off along the National Cycle Network that we have in Wrexham. This is traffic free and runs along the canal. Therefore, for people who feel a little nervous, have never been on a bike or haven’t been on for a very long time, this is a perfect route to get back in tune with THAT bike!

We take as many breaks as needed and take it very steadily. There is no fear of being ‘the last one’ or ‘holding people back’ as the whole point of the ride is to get your confidence up/back……so no one minds at all, as they are all doing the same! There are toilets on route and once in Llangollen we have another break at a café on the canal. When everyone is ready, we start heading back the same way. By the end of the ride, you will feel more steady on the bike, have your confidence back, have meet new people and be aware of the National Cycle Network (NCN).
