About AVOW

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness month; Bowel cancer remains the third most common cancer in the UK and the second most common cause of death.  However, if detected early, it is also one of the most treatable.

A Bowel Screening Wales test kit is currently offered every 2 years to men and women who are resident in Wales aged 60 and 74 years old.  Following a positive test result, screening participants’ are offered a Colonoscopy.  Partaking in regular Bowel Screening can reduce the risk of death by 15%.  Each Health Board across Wales has a Bowel Screening Local Assessment Centre in at least one site.

If you required any further information regarding screening, please contact the Bowel Screening Wales Free phone Helpline on 0800 294 3370 Monday – Friday 9:00am – 5:30pm.
