10 years on: Equality and Human Rights Commission
This month Equality and human Rights Commission are celebrating their 10th anniversary, looking back at their achievements and forward to the next 10 years and beyond.
They opened our doors on 1 October 2007, bringing together the Commission for Racial Equality, the Disability Rights Commission and the Equal Opportunities Commission, and taking on responsibility for protecting and promoting human rights in Britain.
Since then they have improved the lives of millions of people in Britain through legal cases, inquiries and investigations, guidance on rights and responsibilities, robust research on key issues and campaigns to tackle discrimination.
Although there has been a lot of progress over the last decade, there is still a long way to go. Now more than ever we all need strong equality and human rights protection to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to flourish in Britain.
