AVOW supports International Day of Persons With Disabilities

AVOW is proud to be focused on leading the way in building a more disability-inclusive and Socially integrated Wrexham for everyone.
 
International Day of Persons with Disabilities has three core themes of social development, i.e. poverty eradication; promotion of full and productive employment and decent work for all; and social integration, are interrelated, mutually reinforcing and require an enabling environment so as to be achieved simultaneously. The inclusion of persons with disabilities as both agents and beneficiaries of social development is indispensable. Disability inclusion in all aspects of social, economic, cultural and political life is therefore an imperative.
 
For David, Accessibility Officer here at AVOW, the themes of this years International Day of Persons with Disabilities reinforces the work we do here at AVOW to breakdown barriers and encourage true inclusion across Wrexham.
 
The ShopMobility Wrecsam service powered by AVOW ensures that people of all ages, backgrounds and ability can access Wrexham City centre Shops, Services, Community Spaces and more, independently, with dignity and ease of access, helping to reduce isolation and enable full participation in daily life for families and individuals.
 
Through the RITA project, people living with Dementia, their families and their unpaid carers are supported with access to cutting edge digital reminiscence therapeutic activities in their own homes, helping them stay connected, engaged and empowered.
 
The frontline support offered by AVOW’s Community Agents assists people navigate complex systems, access resources and remain connected to their community.
 
Collectively These ongoing efforts contribute directly towards social integration helping to reduce social isolation whilst also promoting and supporting independence and upholding dignity. For David, the themes of this years International Day of Persons with Disabilities are a reminder that Accessibility is not a given or just a service but a commitment to establishing a fairer more inclusive and understanding society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive
