AVOW announced on Thursday 9th of October, ambitious plans to renovate and extend its headquarters, Ty AVOW, in the heart of Wrexham. Lesley Griffiths MS, keynote speaker at the event, praised the organisation’s enduring impact over her 17 years representing Wrexham in the Senedd and highlighted the importance of maintaining a community centre in the heart of Wrexham.

“It was a real pleasure to be asked to be guest speaker at AVOW’s AGM.

Ever since I was first elected to the Senedd in 2007, AVOW has been an essential and integral part of Wrexham life.

It is estimated that in Wales, 1 in 3 people undertake formal volunteering with charities and other bodies.  They’re often the unsung heroes who dedicate their time, energy and passion to making a difference, and AVOW has always done a tremendous job supporting the voluntary sector and serving the local community.” – Lesley Griffiths MS.

AVOW Chief Officer Dawn Roberts-McCabe unveiled the £3.5 million plans to turn the charity’s Egerton Street base into a carbon-neutral, energy efficient community space. The redevelopment, designed by Lawray Architects, will include modern and affordable office and meeting spaces, and a flexible event area for up to 75 people – all designed to be accessible and welcoming.

“This regeneration brings something unique to Wrexham – a multifunctional space designed for and by the voluntary and community sector. Ty AVOW is our home, but it’s also yours.” – Dawn Roberts-McCabe.

AVOW embarks on this new venture and looks to include its members, and the wider voluntary and community sector in the planning for the building. AVOW will now begin a public consultation to shape the final plans and launch fundraising efforts for the next stage of the project. This public consultation is open and can be found on AVOW’s website and social media. AVOW will soon be launch of new fundraising efforts for the next stage of the project.

“There are exciting times ahead with the planned regeneration of Ty AVOW, AVOW’s home in Wrexham.  I trust the revamp will safeguard and support the expansive voluntary and community sector in Wrexham for years to come.”   Lesley Griffiths MS.

Founded in 1988, AVOW (Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham) is the County Voluntary Council for Wrexham and acts as the umbrella body for the city’s voluntary and community sector. It provides support, advice, and advocacy for local charities, social enterprises, and volunteers, helping to strengthen community action across Wrexham County Borough.
