Wrexham European Transition Fund 2021/2022
AVOW is administering the Grant scheme with funding allocated to WCBC – the funding is provided from the Welsh Government (WG) to the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA).
Purpose of funding:
Support an increased number of people facing food poverty by strengthening community food initiatives across each authority including a focus on activity that helps to address the root causes of food poverty. This fund is for Revenue funding only and for a maximum of £5,000.
The Revenue Funding can be used in a variety of ways to suit the requirements of the authority. These might include funding and working with voluntary organisations, community groups and housing associations etc. to develop projects such as social supermarkets, community cafes, lunch clubs and community cookery classes.
It can also be used, for example, to develop and strengthen food partnerships with a view to creating healthy, sustainable local food systems that help tackle food insecurity. Funding might also be used, for example, to provide specialist support for initiatives such as outreach work, training for volunteers (e.g. food handling qualifications) and to build community resilience through the development of community hubs which co-locate a range of support services such as debt and housing advice, holiday hunger schemes, community cafes, social enterprises and advice services, built around community food provision.
The funding is open to:
- Any Voluntary or Public organisation that provides support for the residents of Wrexham County Borough.
- Charities, CIO, CIC, Company Ltd by Guarantee or an organisation with a constitution and committee (applications from individuals, organisations with a single Director/Trustee or no unrelated committee are ineligible).

- Commit to being an active member of any Forums (run by AVOW and WCBC) that operate to bring together knowledge on current issues and be proactive in working with other organisations to support beneficiaries.
