Welsh Government, in partnership with Age Cymru, has provided grants to local authority partners as part of the Friend in Need Programme. Wrexham County Borough Council are offering this grant to third sector partners who can deliver against the grant aims. The fund will be administered and monitored by Avow – Wrexham Local Voluntary Council.
We are inviting Organisations to apply for funding to provide new befriending services or enhance existing befriending schemes.
Projects should reach and support socially isolated and lonely older people, aged 50+, living in Wrexham.
The deadline for applications is 12noon Monday 14th December.
This scheme is available for groups and organisations to apply for up to £400 to support BEFRIENDING for people 50+ throughout the County Borough of Wrexham.
1. Promote the Friend in Need initiative to other originations that have to befriend
2. Raise awareness of befriending and support services that connect, communicate, coordinate, and/or comfort
3. Use digital means to improve social connections between people experiencing social isolation and informal/formal volunteers.
4. Improve digital knowledge, skills, confidence, and resources of volunteers and people requiring support.
Who can apply
Organisations that are formally constituted can apply for up to £400. This includes voluntary organisations or social enterprises that are self-governing, non-profit distributing and working for public/community benefit – as well as Town and Community Councils.
Voluntary organisations must attach their constitution, which is signed and dated and have a bank account set up in the organisation’s name, with at least two named signatories who are not related or living at the same address.
Staff costs for core duties are ineligible.
The Fund cannot cover retrospective expenditure, committed expenditure, or costs for activities that have already been started before a grant is approved.

The decision of the Panel is final.
A condition of this grant is that you agree to provide a report and update on the project
Agree to sharing information on social media channels and relevant local groups.
The full grant must be spent by 31 March 2021
