Community Expressions of Interest to observe North Wales Police training

My name is Dafydd “Daf” Curry; I am a detective Inspector with North Wales Police. I want to extend an invitation to people within the community to observe some of our training. There are a number of reasons and benefits to this:-

  • The public expects service from the police. We want to give people confidence. We think we are a professional well-trained team. Why would we not allow people to see that?
  • We want to be transparent and allow people from within the community to see what training we provide.
  • You might identify something that we haven’t thought of or help us be even better; having a fresh perspective can only help us.
  • Showing people what we do and how we do it will mean people are far more likely to see us as a good employer to work for.

The shocking death of George Floyd understandably raised tensions all over the world, particularly with communities and their police. We have all likely seen some form of negative social media relating to interactions between the police and people with protected characteristics in this country. I want to build positive relationships.
That is why I want to invite people to speak to me if they would be interested in coming in to observe some of our training. That could be stopped and search; race and diversity, personal safety or any other aspect that we together agree would be of benefit.
Anybody with an interest would I am sure understand the need to consent to some form of vetting prior to being given an offer to attend.  COVID restrictions mean the offers may be limited at this time.
If you or anyone you know fits the bill and would like to take part, please ask them to contact me and I will be glad to discuss this with them further.

Diolch yn fawr,
Dafydd Curry email: Dafydd.curry@nthwales.pnn.police.uk
