Free translation

The Welsh Language Commissioner’s office is offering free translations under 1000 words to voluntary organisations during the coronavirus pandemic.

During this period, we know that many voluntary sector organisations are having to respond quickly to an ever-changing situation. We know many of you are keen to communicate bilingually but may need some help to prepare bilingual messages at short notice.

The Welsh Language Commissioner’s Hybu team has decided to extend their proofreading service to offer free translation to the voluntary sector in Wales. They can translate up to 1000 words, free of charge. Just send the work to hybu@welshlanguagecommissioner.wales.

They have been able to assist several organisations already – from translating press releases, urgent messages to members, and guidance for volunteers responding to changes in arrangements.

They can also provide our usual support and advice to you in planning your Welsh language use – the team is still working from home.

The scheme is currently in a testing phase, so please feel free to contact the team as a starting point and they can signpost you to the best place.

Get in touch with them to learn about other support available, for example, the Welsh Government’s new Helo Blod scheme.

More information on Helo Blod

Helo Blod is a fast and friendly Welsh translation and advice service to help businesses and voluntary organisations use more Welsh. And it’s yours to use for free.

Helo Blod can translate up to 500 words into Welsh per month for your business, completely free of charge. They can also check 1000 words of Welsh text that you’ve had a go at writing yourself for free per year.

Finally, Helo Blod can offer you practical advice, guidance and support to help your organisation use a little (or a lot) of Welsh – up to 10 enquiries per calendar month.

Find out more on the Helo Blod site.
