The Blossom Awards Launched

Awards to recognise local Welsh-Chinese achievers

The Blossom Awards celebrate the success and contribution of the British-Chinese Community to our national life.

Founded by Alan Mak and Cathy Watts, the Awards bring together the nation’s leaders and influencers to recognise inspirational achievers from one of the UK’s most-established, patriotic and successful communities.

The Awards promote the participation of British-Chinese people in all aspects of our national life and aim to positively shape the narrative around their contributions whilst challenging outdated stereotypes.

Nominations are open Monday 6 April – Friday 12 June 2020

Categories

Business & Professions

This Award celebrates individuals from the British-Chinese Community who are thriving in organisations of any size and in any sector, including those working in a professional practice area such as accountancy, finance or the law. Founders should apply instead to the Entrepreneurship category

This Award is sponsored by Heathrow Airport

Community

This Award celebrates individuals from the British-Chinese Community who are a driving force of progress in their community, whether on a local or national level (including through working for or with a charity).

This Award is sponsored by The Berkeley Group

Culture, Music & the Arts

This Award celebrates individuals from the British-Chinese Community who are flourishing in any of the performing arts, music, visual arts, creative writing, arts management or the culture sector.

This Award is sponsored by Bicester Village.

Education

This Award celebrates individuals from the British-Chinese Community who are making an important difference to students’ lives through education at any level.

Engineering & Science

This Award celebrates individuals from the British-Chinese Community who are professionals or academics at the forefront of engineering or any scientific field.

Entrepreneurship

This Award celebrates individuals from the British-Chinese Community who have set up and grown their own private business or social enterprise in any sector.

Environment & Sustainability

This award celebrates individuals from the British-Chinese Community who are driving measurable change in order to protect and enhance our environment, economy or society.

Food & Hospitality

This award recognises individuals from the British-Chinese Community who have achieved notable success in any of the food and drink, travel and tourism, events or entertainment sectors.

Media & Creative Industries

This Award celebrates individuals from the British-Chinese Community who have achieved success and prominence in print, broadcast or digital media, or advertising, marketing or design.

Public Service

This Award celebrates individuals from the British-Chinese Community who are serving the community as a public servant. Examples include (but are not limited to) service in organisations such as the police, the fire service, the NHS, the Armed Forces, the civil service, and local or national government.

Technology & Digital

This Award celebrates individuals from the British-Chinese Community who are leading the way in the technology and digital sectors, making a significant contribution to innovation or the application of technology.

Young Achiever (Under 30)

This Award celebrates the talent of a rising star from the British-Chinese Community, across all sectors and fields.

Nominees must be between 18 and 30 years old on Friday 30 October 2020.

The Founders’ Award

This is a special award, presented to one individual from The Blossom Awards 2020 shortlist who the Founders and Judging Panel decide have advanced the role, profile or esteem of the British-Chinese community the most.

This Award is sponsored by Capula Investment Management

The Founders, Patron and Sponsors are not involved in judging any of the Award categories (the only exception being The Founders’ Awards which is decided by the Founders and the Judging Panel jointly).
