Releasing Community Potential – Recognising Community Skills and Experiences

Delivering Recognition across Wales

Basic RGB

What is Recognition?

Recognition schemes accredit the skills, knowledge and experiences which people gain from working or volunteering in their communities. They are nationally endorsed learning programmes delivered by experienced community development mentors. The schemes are planned with partner organisation such as Communities First and are designed around the learners’ needs and run in local community venues.

Why is Recognition needed?

Many people today work with their local communities either as community activists, volunteers and councillors or as paid workers employed by all kinds of organisations. Not many however will have had formal community development training or opportunities to gain qualifications. Recognition offers an alternative informal route for accrediting people’s past and current community development work. It is suitable for volunteers, activists and paid community workers whether or not they have any previous qualifications.
