Registering and Using Your Vote on 8th June
The deadline for registering to vote in the 2017 General Election is Monday 22nd May 2017 (next week). Often those who use social work and other support services are left out of the democratic process – because they can’t access information on how to register or use their vote; they don’t know who the candidates are; or because they can’t get to the polling station and have not been supported in getting a postal vote. BASW wants to help break down these barriers that stop some people exercising their right to vote.
Below is some information prepared by BASW on Registering and Using your Vote on 8th June. Helping someone use their vote should never be about influencing how they vote – the attached information is to help remove the barriers that people with care and support needs often face in exercising their rights. If you are a social worker or if you work with those that use support services, please take the time to find out what you can do to help.
