Holiday Hunger – Call out for Volunteers
It’s time for me to update you on our HOLIDAY HUNGER plans for this Summer, to ask your help once again and let you know of developments over the last 12 months.
At a meeting with our playscheme outlets on Caia Park at Gwenfro Valley and the Venture, we decided to seek volunteers to help us make lunches and operate for the SIX weeks of the school holidays, producing 115 meals each day, TUESDAY to FRIDAY.
We already have supervisors in place for each week, so we need to find 2 volunteers to help us prepare and wrap meals each day. If you could offer a session, or come with a friend to make up a day’s team, that would be much appreciated. The attached rota gives you telephone numbers and e mail addresses to contact us if you could offer to help.
We will allocate offers of help on a first come, first served basis, and hope you will understand if we cannot allocate you the date you first offer because it has already been taken.
The issue of children’s Holiday Hunger is being recognised widely across the UK and there are now schemes in place in many locations, including other locations in Wrexham Borough. We made real progress this year in introducing brown bread and more fruit to our meals. Children’s acceptance of these developments is a very positive life choice development. When our supermarkets support us and organisations and individuals send donations, with your volunteering help we operate a scheme which offers one of the best ‘value for money’ HOLIDAY HUNGER and PLAY projects in the country. THANKS ARE DUE TO ALL OUR DONORS, VOLUNTEERS and CONTRIBUTORS.
This morning I received a cheque for £50 from a community lunch club at Hope Church. Donations like this help us keep on contributing to the holiday health of children on Caia Park, so here we go for Summer 2017!!
Thanks for your interest and support.
