Garfield Weston Foundation launches new £5m fund
The Garfield Weston Foundation launches a £5m fund for charities and community organisations across the UK as part of its 60th Anniversary Year.
One of the UK’s largest charitable institutions is warning that small community organisations, which provide many vital services in local areas, are at risk if they don’t receive more support. The warning comes as the Garfield Weston Foundation reveals a new fund for small charities and community organisations at the start of its 60th Anniversary Year.
The Weston Anniversary Fund will look to award up to £150,000 for each charity that successfully applies for help to improve their existing facilities or provide new ones. The Garfield Weston Foundation have committed up to £5million for this one-off scheme to support as many charities as possible.
The 60th Anniversary Year will also see the Foundation make its £1billionth donation, bringing the total number of individual grants to over 40,000.
The Garfield Weston Foundation’s Director, Philippa Charles, says: “At a time when communities are struggling to support those in need, we felt it was important to launch a fund that would help bring local communities together. By funding capital projects, we want to ensure that charities have the facilities they need to do more of their great work. You only have to look at what’s happening to youth services across the country to see how vital good community support is. Without these services many vulnerable people will be at risk. We want to help small, local charities give people a safe place to go to get the help that they need, at the time that they need it.”
