First Minister Advisory Panel on siting of the proposed Sub Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Centre in North Wales
This facility will be an advance on the units which are currently available and will require investment , both in terms of the facilities which will be available for the service and its’ users and also in providing higher staffing levels.
It will enable North Wales to better meet the standards set by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and enable the majority of babies requiring specialised neonatal intensive care to remain in Wales.
Our Terms of Reference also ask us to set out the implications for the remaining sites and interdependent services.
The model proposed by RCPCH and accepted by the First Minister included the continuation of the special care unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd and so this site is not included within the appraisal of the sites for the SuRNICC.
As a panel we are starting to collect the information which we think will be necessary to make this recommendation. It is expected that the assessment criteria which will form the basis of the decision are arrived at in conjunction with relevant stakeholders.
Consequently the panel wishes to invite you to participate in a workshop to understand the detail of the model proposed by the RCPCH and the factors which should guide the site decision.
The date set for this is the 18th February at Kinmel Manor Hotel, Abergele and we will commence at 12.30pm for registration and light lunch, and start at 1pm.
In addition should you wish to seek clarification on our work, review relevant papers or submit information or questions / comments to us, a web page will be set up to enable you to contact us. Details of this will be sent out within the next week.
It is also our intention to offer the opportunity for stakeholders to meet with us to discuss and inform the business case process and its implications. If you want to arrange this please contact firstname.lastname@example.org who will forward your details onto us.
As we reach the second stage of the decision making process we will want to arrange a large further meeting as per the 18th February.
The date for this will be the 19th March, again in the afternoon, and this will be in the Ramada Hotel, Wrexham.
To reserve a place at these events please contact Caroline Williams by email at email@example.com or telephone 01745 448788 ext 2571.
The panel has been asked to make a significant decision for North Wales and so I hope you will be able to participate and help this to be as inclusive as possible.
The timetable for our work has been set by the First Minister who expects our report and recommendation by the end of March.
