Early years systems mapping event

Public Health Wales

Monday 7th September 2015

Glyndwr University, Wrexham

You are invited to attend an Early Years Systems Mapping Event to help inform the redesign of the Early Years System in Wales. Your expertise will be invaluable in identifying the opportunities for early intervention and prevention.

Please also share this invitation with colleagues and networks that you think would have vested interest in attending the event.

Public Health Wales, Welsh Local Government Association, a number of Welsh Government departments, statutory and third sector partners have come together with a renewed commitment to ensure that everyone in Wales has an opportunity to achieve their potential.  The inequalities in outcomes between those from the most advantaged and most disadvantaged groups, that have long existed in Wales and elsewhere in the developed world, are not improving and may be getting worse.  We believe that we can make a difference if we align our work around a few key priorities.

We have collectively agreed that the early years, particularly the first 1000 days of life from conception to two years of age are pivotal in changing the life opportunities for children and young people in Wales.  We know that if we create the optimum environment in those critical early days of life we can influence outcomes well into adulthood.  Changing the way we think and act to a more preventative approach, intervening before problems occur, has the potential to make a difference.  We have much that we can build on with the core services in the NHS and Local Government; the Tackling Poverty Programmes funded by Welsh Government such as Flying Start and Communities First and the community and voluntary sector programmes that exist all over Wales.

We believe that in order to maximise the impact of our current services we need to align the system around some core objectives and goals.  To start this redesign process we would like to invite you to attend a system mapping event on Monday 7th September 2015 taking place at Glyndwr University, Wrexham. This will be the first stage in designing the optimal Early Years system for Wales. We are bringing together all of the services and professionals who engage with families of children in the first two years of life, either on a planned basis or casual basis. Your expertise is essential in identifying the opportunities for early intervention and prevention.

We hope that you will be able to join us in creating a new delivery model that will give all children the best start in life.
