AVOW – AGM DAFFA Football Match
As part of its Silver Jubilee Celebrations following AVOW’s AGM – The NW Fire Service played the mighty DAFFA (Drug, Alcohol Free Football Association) in a 11 a side football match at Glyndwr University Sports Ground.
Ian Lucas (local MP) was the referee for the match which was a very fair game (and had no yellow or red cards shown) and was played with a very vibrant spirit. The Mayor and Mayoress of Wrexham were among the guests at the Match and stayed during 80+ temperatures to present the trophies and medals to the 2 teams. Many spectators visited throughout the match and commended both teams for their efforts.
Tony Ormond who works in Substance Misuse Department in AVOW said “This event was more than just kicking a ball around – it highlights a significant relationship between AVOW and it’s Service Users and the Fire Service. The day was very friendly and I have to honour the work and generosity of all involved, especially the Fire Service team who donated their time to the event which was voluntary. I feel sporting activity can bring people together from all walks of life and the day proved that lessons can be learned from profiling diverse lives across Wrexham County Borough via Diversionary Activity. We would like to thank the Mayor and Mayoress and Ian Lucas for supporting this worthy event.”
The match result was:
North Wales Fire Service – 8 and DAFFA – 2
