Applications open for educational panel
Parents and professionals are invited to join an education panel which will help make important decisions on admissions and exclusions.
Wrexham County Borough Council has opened applications for its education panel, which decides on appeals from parents against school admissions or exclusions.
Being a panel member can be a rewarding experience for anyone who may have free time and wants to contribute to their community.
No experience is required, but applications from members of the public, current and former education professionals and school governors are welcome – as well as applications from parents of children currently attending school.
The panel considers cases from parents who may appeal to the independent panel if their child has been refused a place at their preferred school, or permanently excluded.
Three or five members are selected for each hearing from the pool of panel members for each appeal.
Full training will be provided for new members, and clerks are present throughout hearings to give legal advice.
The work is unpaid, but panel members will have their travel expenses reimbursed.
Cllr Michael Williams, Lead Member for Children’s Services and Education, said: “We would encourage anyone who may be interested in joining the panel to get in touch – it is a very rewarding post and panel members provide an indispensable independent viewpoint.”
Anyone interested in becoming a panel member may contact Ffion Williams at Wrexham Council’s Corporate and Customer Services Department on 01978 292228 (Wednesdays and Thursdays) or Matthew Foster on 01978 292243 (Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays).
Alternatively, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The closing date is Monday 29th February, 2016.
